Scholarships/Grants

The Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation partners with the Indiana Retired Teachers Association to promote the welfare of retired educators, support those currently teaching, and encourage those entering the profession. They offer three opportunities. They are college scholarships, active teacher grants, and short term financial need for IRTA members.

  • Scholarships: College sophomores and juniors who are education majors and are children, grandchildren, nieces/nephews, and legal dependents or spouses of an active or deceased IRTA member may apply by April 29. A minimum of one scholarship in each of the ten geographic areas of the IRTA will be awarded annually.

  • Active Teacher Grants: Public school educators (Pre-K through 12) may apply so that their students will have the means to participate in special projects. Applications are due by September 30, and up to $500 will be awarded in each regional district.

Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation Active Grant Winners

Dear Area 2 Local RTA Presidents and Local IRTF Foundation Chairs:

Grants for active teachers to foster creativity in the classroom was launched by Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation successfully this fall.  To learn more about the Active Teacher Grant, please visit our new website at www.retiredteachers.org. There is a link to the grant information on the Foundation page of the website. There was a total of 127 active teacher applications this first year.  29 teachers across the state of Indiana were awarded.  Evaluators, chosen by each of the 10 area directors (including the director in most cases), were asked to pick active teacher grant applicants that could be awarded up to $500.  Each area was allowed to award up to $1,000 for their area, and may be for two or more grants in each area.

The IRTF Active Grant winners have been selected.  $500.00 has been granted to two winners in Area 2.  Please see the two lists below.   The winners’ school addresses are recorded in case you or anyone in your local would like to congratulate the winners.  Carol Larson is the Area 2 Director and the three local presidents who have winners from their county are Deborah Satterly and Julie Martin, co-presidents of Kosciusko County RTA and Pam Sellers, president of Noble County RTA.

Plans are currently being made by Carol Larson to schedule upcoming presentations of the checks to the winners at an upcoming school board meeting at each of the two school districts.

Congratulations to the winners and the locals involved!
